Photography in Klein Media
I’ve always been interested in photography. About 10 years ago I bought a Canon Rebel DSLR. I used it a lot when I traveled, but then I used it less and less, so I finally sold it. It was a little bit wasted on me anyway; I wondered why anyone would use any other setting besides “Automatic”, because it did the work for me, right? When I met Joel, I started learning more about the technical parts of photography and videography (and how wrong I was about that Automatic setting!), and I started to regret selling that camera.
We have purchased 2 cameras since starting Klein Media, and that has given me the opportunity to pick up the hobby that I dropped several years ago. The first camera we purchased is a Panasonic Lumix g7- a lightweight but great camera for the price. While the g7 is good for photos and great for video, our second camera, the Canon 5D Mark III is good for video but great for photos. But both have proven to be great tools in their own ways.
This fall, I’ve had the opportunity to do 6 family photo sessions. Even though it has been several years since I took photos with my Rebel, I am remembering more of the elements that make a great shot and I’m learning more along the way. Joel is a great coach, too. He has a great eye for detail both in-camera and in post-production. He knows when to guide me and when to let me try things on my own. One of my favorite sessions so far was just this past weekend with some extended family. My cousin and his family wanted to get photos taken at Nerstrand Big Woods State Park. The lighting was impeccable, their three daughters are adorable, and there is a waterfall; that combination made for some beautiful photos.
In addition to growing my skills, I get a COVID-friendly visits with friends and family during these sessions! 2020’s fall photo session was an absolute blast and I’m so excited that photography is my creative outlet that everyone can enjoy.
